Czech Republic – 20 November 2010 - Benesov, Czech Republic – 20 November 2010 – Mavel, a.s. announced the formal commissioning on September 24, 2010 of the Lovosice-Pistany I. hydroelectric power project ("Lovosice HPP") on the River Elbe in the Litomerice District of the Czech Republic. The greenfield hydro project, owned by RenoEnergie a.s. utilizes four Mavel PIT turbines.
Mavel supplied four horizontal Kaplan double regulated PIT turbines type MAVEL KP3000K3, each with runner diameter of 3000 mm and three runner blades. The company also supplied related technology for each generating unit, including gearbox, generator, hydraulic, lubrication and cooling system, cleaning machine, trash racks, electrical and control systems.
The Lovosice HPP site has nominal net head of 1.9 meters and total flow of 160 cubic meters per second. Total installed power is 3 MW.
Martin Sintak, Mavel Commercial Director, noted that the successful commissioning of Mavel's PIT turbines at the Lovosice HPP is a significant milestone in confirming the economic potential of site with relatively low available heads.
He added that "we are seeing increased global demand for specialized low head Kaplan turbines. The performance of our KP3000K3 at the Lovosice HPP can be replicated at other sites around the world. The confirmed performance and associated economic viability at this site paves the way for successful installation of multiple units with minimal excavation at low head projects."
Mavel, a.s. is a Czech Republic-based manufacturing and engineering company focusing on production of turbines for hydro-electric power plants from 25 kW to 25+ MW. Over the past fifteen years, the company has installed almost 350 turbines at about 250 sites around the world.
