Mavel, a.s. Receives Order For The Grodnenskaya Project In Belarus

Benesov, Czech Republic – 31 March 2010 - Mavel, a.s. announced that it signed a contract for provide turbines and related technology for the Grodnenskaya Hydroelectric Power project (“Grodnenskaya HPP”) in Belarus in the second half of 2009. Financing for the project from the Czech Export Bank was procured and signed earlier this year. This type of financing is available to foreign customers of Czech companies.

The site located on the Neman River is 8 kilometers from the city of Grodno and owned by RUP Grodnoenergo. Mavel will supply five double regulated horizontal PIT turbines with runner diameters of three meters – Mavel type KP3000K4. Mavel will also supply generators, hydraulic units, gearboxes and control systems.

Each turbine will utilize the head of seven meters and flow of 60 cubic meters per second. The combined expected installed output will be just under 19 MW.

Ing. Jan Sip, Chief Operating Officer of Mavel, noted that “this is a great opportunity for us. The Grodnenskaya project will be the first installation of Mavel’s turbines in Belarus. In addition, it allowed Mavel to work closely with the customer and the Czech Export Bank to obtain competitive financing for an important regional renewable energy project.”

The contract was signed on July 1, 2009 and commissioning is expected in 2011.
