Mavels Signs Contract to Provide Three Kaplan Turbines to 9 MW Malycze Hydro Plant

Prague, Czech Republic – 31 May 2005 - Mavel, a.s. announced that it signed on 20 May 2005 a contract to provide three Kaplan turbines for the planned 9 MW Malczyce hydro electric plant on the Odra River in southwest Poland.

The site has an existing weir and locks and will be completely rehabilitated by its owner Regionalny Zarzad Gospodarki Wodnej we Wroclawiu. There will be a new weir with tilting gates, new locks and a new powerhouse for the hydro electric equipment.


Malczyce Hydro Power Plant

Mavel, as leader of a consortium with Energoprojekt - Warszawa s.a., will provide three Mavel horizontal pit Kaplan KP3400K3 turbines. Each 3400 mm diameter turbine will be double regulated and have three runner blades. Each turbine will use a gear box for connection to a synchronous generator.

The Malczyce power plant site will have flow of about 240 cms and head ranging from 4.2 to 6.4 meters. The delivery will be over the next three years with commissioning expected in May 2008. Installed power will be 9 MW.
